Privacy Policy update July 3, 2019

Who we are--basically nobody, but...

This page was created as a remembrance of my time in the Republic of the Marshall Island in the South Pacific.  Specifically on Kwajalein Atoll.  This website is located on servers managed by BlueHost.

Our website address is: http://www.kwajtoday.com

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

Very little information is collected....and you may opt out of this completely.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

The principle way to contact KwajToday is via the Contact Form.  This generates an email message which is sent to a secure external site.  Emails are only retained for 10 day whether they are read or not.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.  It is possible that BlueHost which is the host for this site uses cookies for other purposes.  I have no knowledge as to whether they do or not.  You should check their privacy policy.  If I learn anything more, I will post that here.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Currently no one.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained briefly. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.  There is small but no zero chance that your data might be kept for a longer time on a backup system.  Currently there are no backups being generated.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.  Because data is kept for only a short amount of time, there may not be any information about you.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

The name and email address you provide will be forwarded to a secure email system.
